Surfboard No. 1

finished on the 4th of June 2020 shaped and glassed in Millsville in the original shit shed

Project type

Surfboard 1

This was the No, 1 attempt at making a surfboard. during my travels in new Zealand i met a Scottish lad name Andrew, he had made a couple boards and basically planted the seed. Then I met a second Andrew, He is a YOUTUBER who basically taught me how to make a surfboard, so if your thinking of making a surfboard check him out, very good at explaining. OH! and I also have a 'how to' PDF guide for sale on this website, so if your interested in making yourself a shed build get on that its only 7 bucks.

I had been googling lots of surfboards and trying to choose what sort of shape and sizes I was thinking, it soon became clear when Instagram's algorithm has them pinned to my screen. fish tail, 6 foot 23 inch wide 2.5 inch thick with 30-40 liters of volume. i wanted something that i could surf no matter the conditions. I found an amazing website that you can print templates out of a bunch of surfboards. printed that out and made me a top template with cardboard ready to strace into the foam blank. This thing is a 1st attempt so there where plenty of mistakes, the fiberglass has sort of delaminated on the deck making it into a softer board. Its a super weird, having that width really helps to catch waves but the twin fins making it sort of turn too. I've had some brilliant 3 footer days on it and plenty more to come! I always thought my first attempt might not be surfable but this is still my daily go to!
